Synurus deltoides is a herbaceous perennial plant growing from a thick but short rhizome; A single, strong, branched stem id produced and grows around 70 - 150cm tall[, ].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food. The leaves are sold in local food markets in Korea[].

Cultivation Details

Synurus deltoides is a somewhat cold-hardy plant, tolerating temperatures down to around -10 to -15°c.
Succeeds in any fertile well-drained soil, preferably slightly alkaline in nature, in full sun[].

Tender parts of the plant are eaten cooked[, ]. The leaves can also be dried and sprinkled on other foods[].

Propagation

Seed - we have no information on this species but suggest sowing the seed in a cold frame in spring. Surface sow or only just cover the seed and do not allow the compost to dry out. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts.
