Suaeda fruticosa has at times been considered to have a native range from western Europe, through the Mediterranean to the Arabian Peninsula and India. It is now considered to be two distinct species; Suaeda vera is found in the west part of the range, from western Europe to eastern Mediterranean, whilst Suaeda fruticosa is found from the eastern Mediterranean to Arabia and India.
