Stranvaesia bodinieri is a plant of warm temperate regions of China and Vietnam. It is not very cold-hardy, tolerating temperatures down to around -5°c for short periods. It succeeds outdoors at Kew in London (hardyness zone 7) where it is damaged only in severe winters[]. It is best given the protection of a wall or a sheltered woodland position in areas where temperatures regularly fall below -5°c[].
Requires a well-drained fertile soil in a sheltered position in sun or light shade[, ]. Succeeds in any good well-drained soil in a sunny position[]. Prefers a warm soil that is not too heavy or close[]. Tolerates calcareous soils[, ]. Dislikes windy sites[].

Propagation
