General Information

Ostrya knowltonii is a deciduous tree growing up to 12 metres tall[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood[].
Ostrya knowltonii is a rare tree with a sporadic population that may occur as small isolated subpopulations over its
range. It is classified as Vulnerable in some parts of its range but subpopulations in the Grand Canyon National Park and upper Colorado river have remained stable and the species is projected to have the largest range extensions among deciduous trees in N. America due to projected climates of the 21st century. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2014)[].
