Neolitsea aciculata is native to the subtropical climate of southern Japan and Taiwan. It is unlikely to be hardy in any but the mildest regions of the temperate zone.
A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required.
An extract of the stems is used as an ingredient in commercial cosmetic preparations as an antioxidant and skin conditioner[
