Ligustrum delavayanum is native to the warm temperate zone of southern China, where it can be found at elevations up to 3,700 metres. A somewhat cold-tolerant plant, when fully dormant it can withstand short periods with temperatures down to about -15°c. Plants are not fully cold-hardy outside the milder areas of the temperate zone[
