Plants are not very cold-hardy, tolerating occasional short-lived lows to about -3°c[]. They generally require greenhouse protection in Britain[], though might succeed outdoors in the mildest areas of the country if given a suitable position. Seed - we have no information for this species, but suggest sowing the seed in a well-drained compost in a greenhouse in spring. Carefully applying heat to simulate a rapidly passing bushfire might improve germination. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots as soon as they are large enough to handle and grow on in the greenhouse for at least a year before planting out into their permanent positions in early summer. Consider giving winter protection for at least the first year after planting out.
