Azorella lycopodioides grows at elevations of 400 - 1,400 metres in regions of Chile that experience precipitation almost all year round, with it falling as snow in the winter months. Iindeed, plants can be covered by snow for up to 8 months a year in some parts of its range. It can tolerate temperatures down to around -15°c, perhaps even to -20°c[
