The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. It is sometimes used in soil stabilization projects.
Despite a fairly restricted natural distribution, occurring only in Japan and North and South Korea, there are no known threats impacting upon this species and it is reported to be very common in parts of its range. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[
